Under the Dogs (Fouling of Land) Act 1996,
you can be prosecuted for not cleaning up after your dog, a law which
applies to all land
with unhindered access. There are restrictions on taking dogs on
beaches: Ilfracombe, Instow, Lynton & Lynmouth and
Porlock: there are no restrictions all year. Combe Martin and Westward Ho!: dogs
are not allowed from
1st May - 30th September. Croyde: no dogs at any time. Saunton:
restrictions apply. Woolacombe: from Good Friday - 31st October all dogs
are prohibited
between the Esplanade and the stream. from the left of stream to Mill Rock, dogs
are allowed on
leads. Putsborough: between 1st April - 31st October dogs are not allowed left of
the steps to the shop. Right hand side of the beach is OK If your dog is "well behaved".
Since these restrictions may change, check
notices on the beach.
