South Devon Hotels For A
Romantic Break

Kingsbridge - Buckland
Tout-Saints Hotel
The South Hams is a stunning area of
Devon, well worth exploring, and if you're looking for a luxurious
base from which to do so, then this elegant and extremely
comfortable hotel may be the idea place to stay. Situated in over
four acres of beautiful woodland and garden, the hotel is an elegant
"William & Mary" house, which has been awarded 3 red stars and two AA Rosettes
(always a guarantee of fine cooking!).
Although the hotel is in a wonderfully secluded and peaceful
location, it's not far to the delightful little town of Salcombe.
Luxury is the keyword here: from the luxurious, refurbished
bedrooms, to the elegant lunge bar and pine-panelled restaurant,
everything speaks of the highest attention to detail. The sixteen
bedrooms have all been designed individually, and the level of
furnishing encourages you to relax and unwind, taking in the
grandeur of the rooms in what has to be one of the finest hotels in
the area. Standards of service are also as high as you would expect
in this luxury hotel: and dining is central to the experience of
staying here, since head chef Callum Kier has held two AA Rosettes for
many years. The hotel's main restaurant is one of the finest in the
area, and if you wish to arrange a private function, there are
smaller venues which are both intimate and elegant. The hotel is
expert in hosting
weddings, functions and private parties.

Salcombe - Tides Reach Hotel
Ownership by one family (in this case the Edwards) for a long period
of time
has definite advantages in the hotel trade: you learn exactly what
your guests want, and you can provide the service and facilities that
exactly suit your clients. In this case, relaxation and luxury are
the key words. People coming to this area will probably be drawn
here by the amazing beauty of the area, or perhaps their desire to
relax and unwind. This hotel provides an ideal place in which you
can forget all about the cares of life, and enjoy elegance, comfort
and luxury in the most enjoyable of surroundings. The thirty five
bedrooms are furnished with individual flair and elegance, and few
share the same colour scheme. Almost all rooms have a view of the
estuary, and several have private balconies. If you want an extra
level of luxury, the premier rooms are especially spacious and
well-appointed. The hotel restaurant uses fresh food from the area
and fish from the sea nearby, presenting gourmet meals which are
expertly prepared and served with the highest attention to standards
of service.

Dartmouth - The Dart Marina Hotel
The Dart Marina is a modern hotel in
the townhouse idiom, with contemporary design and soft colour
schemes in the bedrooms, all of which have a river view. The
facilities and furnishings are of the highest standard - comfortable
large beds, fluffy towels, bathrobes and crisp white sheets
included! - and the rooms are a superbly relaxing place in which to
enjoy a romantic break (or any other kind of break!). Junior suites
are equipped with king sized beds, and a variety of other room
specifications means you'll find exactly what you're looking for in
terms of price and level of comfort.
The hotel prides itself on its style, superb facilities and
excellent cooking, all of which you find reflected in every aspect
of the hotel's operation. For example, there is a superb spa with
swimming pool and various complementary treatments available,
equipped to leave you feeling replenished and pampered. There's a
fitness suite if you wish to work out, the cycles, treadmills and
cross trainers giving you a range of options for your exercise
programme.
In the restaurant, chef Mark Streeter uses a wide selection of
high quality Devon foods to prepare some of the finest meals in the
area. His ingredients are sourced from round and about - fresh sea
fish, local meat and home baked breads. There are various options
for eating, including the high quality River Restaurant, which, as
you might expect, has magical
views over the riverside. This provides a fine dining experience.
Then there is the Wildfire Bistro and Bar, a Devon seafood grill,
also serving acoustic guitar, cocktails and champagne! The excellent local beef,
lamb and pork will delight you, as will the fact that the same
degree of attention is paid to the side dishes and puddings as the
mains. All in all, a break here will be a rejuvenating and
refreshing experience, whether it lasts for one night, one week or
longer!

Clovelly - The Red Lion
Clovelly is a unique
village, set in the cleft of a 400 foot high cliff, with
a cobbled street which winds down an ancient
fishing port. No traffic is allowed in the village, only
donkeys and sledges, where the white-washed houses with
geraniums sometimes seem more reminiscent of a
Mediterranean village setting. But if you aren't as
young as you used to be, don't despair - there's a Land
Rover service (free to hotel residents) to whisk you up
and down the hill to the Red Lion right on the quay. This
is a magical place, where you wake to the sound of
seagulls, and the sight of a natural harbour, with the
slow pace of life that most of the country has now lost.
Each of the eleven bedrooms with beautifully-refurbished
en suite bathrooms, looks out over either the harbour or
the sea, but they are all individual and have their own
character, thanks to the attention of a talented
interior designer. Parking space close by for The Red
Lion residents. The Red Lion is licensed for weddings as
is the New Inn in the heart of the village. Hotels
offer nineteen en-suite bedrooms between them, with
other accommodation available in the village.

Lynton - Lynton
Cottage Hotel
Lynton is a great base for touring North Devon because so much of
the area lies within daily exploring distance, and so many
facilities are located nearby. To list just a few of these: Outovercott
riding
stables are a mere fifteen minutes' drive away; Ilfracombe Golf Club and
Minehead Golf Club are only thirty minutes' drive away - for
something more challenging, there's Saunton Sands Golf Club and
championship course, slightly further. Keypitts Off Road Adventure Centre
provides quad biking, paint ball,
target shooting and off-road driving, as you might expect; Rosemoor
Gardens, Marwood Gardens, and Arlington Court are all within
comfortable driving
distance; Lundy Island, a fantastic place for wild flowers and birds
is just off the coast; there's also falconry and
hawking tuition, hawk walks, various nature reserves and animal
farms, and much more...... but what about the hotel? The superior
rooms have an air of old fashioned charm with ultra modern
facilities. The other rooms offer comfort and elegance with
understated charm, while the public areas are the perfect place to
rest while you enjoy the magnificent views.
In the restaurant, chef/partner Allan Earl uses local produce of the
highest quality to justify his second AA rosette.
And there are plenty of options for eating: Sanford's restaurant
maintains its traditional high quality, while a bistro
style menu in the bar provides a casual lunch
or dinner option. With country house style,
a friendly bar, a charming Georgian lounge and an elegant dining room,
this hotel offers you the perfect venue in which to relax and wind
down!
